The toys are of inferior strength and are not anchored correctly for outdoor use.
All our products are manufactured from materials which comply with the stringent tests required by the industry including ( British Standards ) BS EN 71 (part 2 & 3) for Soft Play and the current BS/EN14960 for Inflatable's.
All our materials are fully coated with flame retardant PVC specifically designed for the inflatable and soft play industry

2) Annual Safety Testing (& The PIPA myth Explained)
The HSE (Health and safety executive) insist under the Health and safety at work act PUWER regulations that All children's inflatables designed for bouncing and sliding must have an annual inspection carried out by a competent person. The test must be carried out to EN14960.
As part of this annual testing, The tester must be able to demonstrate that the inflatable is manufactured in accordance with the latest BS/EN14960 Regulations, which ensures inflatables are safe in design and manufacture, Are Flame retardant and fit for purpose as well as ensuring the inflatables are in a good state of repair & a detailed log is kept similar to a cars MOT & a certificate of compliance is issued should the inflatable pass the test and be fit for purpose.
Pipa is a private company who offer testing records nationally and has become a household name within the industry. As such it is a common belief that Pipa is the only scheme of its kind. This is not the case, There are almost 50 other schemes in place to achieve the same result. All other testing bodies perform the exact same test to the exact same EN14960 standard & issue the same certification of annual inspection as each other.
PIPA is simply a brand of testing and despite popular belief, not compulsory. This confusion is lead mainly by PIPA being one of the first bodies to offer testing of inflatables and has become a household name in the same way the we use the word “Hoover” when in fact we are referring to the “Vacuum Cleaner” or the word “Tannoy” when we are referring to a public address system (PA).
One of the main reasons we choose Betterbounce EN14960 Certification over a Pipa EN14960 Certification is the Pipa is only in place to reflect safety of bouncy castles & inflatables designed solely for Bouncing & Sliding and not really adequate for a company as large and diverse as ourselves.
Gladiator Duels, Assault courses, Bungee Runs, Knock out inflatables, Pillow bashes, Bouncy Boxing, Human table football, Human Bowling, Inflatable buildings, Obstacle course, Arcade games and most of the other items on our website do not qualify for testing by Pipa. In Fact PIPA would only account for just over 25% of our equipment. Once PIPA encompases our entire range of equittment, we will move over to 100% PIPA for ease of administration.
In absence of any further laws we opt to use the brand Betterbounce Direct, We do this because of the following reasons:
-
The company has been around for over 25 years gaining an almost Unravelled level of competence.
- The director of the company sits on the board at PIPA as a manufacturer and technical adviser
-
They issue safety inspections certificates independently that comply with PUWER.
-
The company issue every inflatable with a unique serial number to enable tracking even after sale.
-
Each certificate comes with a log book and a service history section so you can track its history (like a car)
-
They are members of The British Inflatable Hirers Association (BIHA)
-
They are members of The Inflatable Play Enterprise (TIPE)
-
They have completed The Registered Play Inspectors International training day.
-
They are open 7 days a week for verification of certificates on 0113 2574483 or by email on: betterbounceebay@gmail.com
ALL our inflatables are tested by Betterbounce Annually and we have a complete record of in house weekly testing and maintenance schedules. To view our test data, please email us and we will be happy to provide you with our records or contact Betterbounce direct.
I must also point out that we are fortunate enough to have had our Health and Safety & testing regime inspected by the HSE themselves and they are 100% happy with our proceedings.
I trust this helps settle any issues you may have.
Whilst we do not participate in the Pipa Scheme directly due to it only encompassing 20% of our entertainment stock, For added assurance, Our Director is on the panel of the PIPA Inspection Body/ Leadership PLG scheme who regulate the industry. Pipa tested inflatables are available from £200+vat per item should they be required at your event and we do have some stock items tagged.. Please contact us for details.
Please also see the new advisory note from PIPA direct below.

The risk assessments below have been compiled by us using guidance from the Health & Safety Executive, The British Inflatable Hirers Association, extracts from EN14960 & EN177 and our many years of experience in event management.

Please remember that inflatables shall not be used in wind conditions above 24mph and in wet conditions. The hirer will remain responsible for suitable action to be taken to avoid injury unless our staff have been provided to assist at an additional cost. In windy conditions where no indoor alternative has been soursed on the day, Our team will install the inflatable and leave it un inflated. Please ensure you have the correct mastic to suit your service. If you have, our staff will be happy to help.
When securing inflatables into hard surfaces we use a drill & Rawbolt system, This requires us to physically drill through your hard surface and install temporary anchors to the surface. Please ensure you have the correct mastic to suit your service. If you have, If you have, our staff will be happy to help fill the surface in.
Our anchorage methods include 200mm long raw bolts on hard standing areas & 380mm anchor stakes on grassed areas and as such we request a minimum clearance of 500mm underground. BOLTS WILL NOT BE FILLED IN UNLESS REQUESTED & THERE WILL BE A SMALL CHARGE. Please ensure you have the correct mastic to suit your service. If you have, our staff will be happy to help fill the surface in.
Should you be in any doubt, please contact us in advance and we can arrange for a site survey to be undertaken by a certified engineer. This will attract an extra cost but well worth the fee to ensure the day runs smoothly.
PLEASE NOTE; We are unable to accommodate drilling and bolting on surfaces such as flags, flagging, Block paving and other similar surfaces as the bolting will only bolt the inflatable to the single flag or block we drill to and result in the majorally insufficient anchorage. Each anchor point must be able to withstand 167kg by law, with mots inflatables featuring between 6 and 30 anchor points. In these situations, we will require several 1,000 litre water bails or several 1 Tonne builders sandbags as ballast delivered to site in advance. Please call us to discuss your requirements and this is a major safety concern.
ALSO PLEASE NOTE: We are only able to drill into private property owned by the hirer. WE WILL NOT DRILL INTO ANY 3RD PARTY PROPERTY, INCLUDING COUNCIL PROPERTY. Any unauthorised drilling will be the responsibility of the client at all times. It will be presumed that all land in which we are requested to drill into has the full permission of the landowner. We have no way of tracking this and as such, all liability will solely be down to the client at all times.
We can set up our equipment on hard standing but we must be advised of this at the time of booking to ensure we bring the correct anchorage.
